Taken from The Verge: Should a robot decide when to kill?

Matthew 0 Comments

Taken from The Verge
Late last year I posted an article about a 6ft, 330lbs robot that was built to save us.  It was to partake in the DARPA  trials in December, along with several other robots.  The article, based off of some info I found on Reddit, covered my views of how easily the DARPA Trials could be a front for more sinister means.  The trials would include several tasks for the robots to complete including navigating deteriorated landscapes, entering buildings, and driving vehicles.  This was to simulate situations that a robot may encounter during a rescue mission.  However, once you add a gun into the situation, the robot could be come combat ready, where these tasks would also come in handy.…

humancheese
I love cheese, any kind you can give me, at least I thought I did… I mean I love Brie, Emmental, Cheddar, Mozzarella, Gouda, etc… But Belly Button, Armpit, Toe and Human mouth cheese… its enough to turn my stomach…

Cheese is known for its stinky odor. But, cheeses at one exhibit at the Science Gallery Dublin in Trinity College Dublin come from an especially smelly source — human toe, armpit, belly button and mouth bacteria.

Selfmade, which is part of the Grow Your Own…Life After Nature exhibition, features different “microbial sketches” of cheeses created with bacteria samples from various people.

What kind of world do we live in where we can no longer trust our Doctors?

Matthew 0 Comments

tumblr_inline_mupyacR7TY1so8tquDoctors have forever been one of the professions we regards in the highest when it comes to authoritative figures.  By this I mean people you can trust, be it to keep you safe, or to keep you healthy, Doctors have always been there to help us, and keep our deepest secrets safe (Doctor Client privilege).

Along with Priests and lawyers, this privilege is sacred, and should never be broken except in absolutely extreme circumstances (ex: If a psychiatrist find out one of his patients is a serial killer, they need to report it).  But now Doctors are using Social Media to post images and comments about patients.…

Yup, we’ve F@#$ ourselves.

Matthew 2 Comments

Its been over 2 years since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, which due to its location, makes it far worse then Chernobyl disaster of 1986. Because the plant sits directly on the ocean, tons of radio active water has been pumped into the oceans, contaminating our already fragile ecosystem.

It is sad to see that we have become our own demise. We need not create a World War III to end our planet, we simply have to be ourselves… We are a destructive race, and again I do not mean a Warring race, although we are that as well, but our very nature, we destroy and consume all that is around us, we create dangerous power plants in areas that should have never had them.…

Another Email Scam – Gotta love these

Matthew 1 Comment

In the past I have made posts on some of the scams I get in my email.  I came across another one today just made me laugh.  Apparently it’s from Mr.Timothy F. Geithner, Under Secretary for International Affairs of the United States Treasury Department. There are several RED FLAGS that get raised while reading it. I will note each one with a number in red, like this1 and explain why it’s a red flag at the end.

How far do we have to bend over backwards before we snap? (Figuratively speaking)

Matthew 0 Comments

1374122_10151985945300522_1029092397_nI was on Facebook today and came across the image to the left.  Now I live in Canada, and its no different here.  We have changed so much to be politically correct and socially acceptable that we have forgotten who we are.  In 2009 headlines were abuzz with the fact that schools in New Brunswick were no longer going to sing “O Canada”, our National Anthem, sadly for purposes of privacy, the exact reason Parents didn’t want their children singing was not mentioned.  (Story here)

Canada, unlike the States, is huge on Multi-Culturalism (The United States is usually refereed to as a Melting Pot) but why should our acceptance of other people’s faith, religion, culture and ways of life, make it so that we have to give up our own?  …

Have Schools gone too far? Students doing good, are being punished…

Matthew 0 Comments

Today another article was released showing how schools seem to be over stepping their boundaries.  A high school student in the states drove to a party to be her friends Designated Driver.  Erin Cox’s  friend called her, saying she was drunk.  Cox then drove to the party to find her friend to get her home safe.  Unfortunately,  the cops were called in and upon arrival arrested several under-age party goers, including Cox, who is 17 years old.  However Cox was cleared by the cops as she was not in possession of alcohol and did not have any in her system.  However this didn’t mean anything to North Andover High School, which suspended her from the volleyball team for 5 games due to their Zero Tolerance Drug and Alcohol policies.  …

How long will the internet, as we know it, last?

Matthew 0 Comments

The question in the title is posed based on a few articles I have recent read on the web. The first was an article about a US ISP looking to charge websites if they want their content carried over the network, much like Cable TV.

An article on InfoWorld.com states that Verizon is trying to turn the web into pay-per-view. They are currently in court fighting to end the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) policy of Net neutrality. If they win, it would allow them to selectively block or slow traffic to certain sites and protocols. It would also mean that companies like Verizon could charge sites like YouTube and Netflix a premium to have their packets travel over their network unrestricted, which could in turn raise prices for sites that are already membership driven (Netflix) and sites that are currently free may have to charge the viewer to subsidize the cost (YouTube).…

Hotmail/Outlook forcing recovery options forcing a secure password would be a better option.

Matthew 2 Comments

UPDATE (2019/04/12): The site I was using for Password Fault no longer worked. They have switched to Passwordfault.com, however, their site is not secure (non-https) and therefore has been updated to Comparitech.

Not too long ago Microsoft’s free webmail, Hotmail, got a facelift and a name change. The new Outlook as it is called is now forcing its recovery options on the end user, making them chose between only two options, cell or email. The problem is, not everyone has a cell phone or an alternate email.

As most of you know I am a manager at a public computer centre in Montreal, Canada, and on a daily basis I deal with several patrons whom most of which use Outlook as their email of choice.…

Will the USA be responsible for the downfall of mankind?

Matthew 0 Comments

Now before you get all upset I am not talking about the American People, I know quite a few Americans and in general they are pretty nice people. No, I am talking about the idiots in power. Now again, before you start bitching, I am not talking about the President either (Ok, some of them have been pretty out there [cough]Bush[cough]), I am talking about those with the real power… the brainiacs (said sarcastically) in charge of the military.

I just read 2 articles that make my head spin. And both are from ages ago, long before my time. I am talking about the Starfish Prime Nuclear Test (on wikipedia) and Project West Ford (on wikipedia).…
