Last year I wrote a post about the fact I was gonna try to build a new computer to replace my old one. Sadly I was finding it very hard to save up the amount needed living paycheck to paycheck. So I opted for Crowd Funding using a site called Go Fund Me… Sadly after 3 weeks I only raised $5 (Thank you, Sonya). However the other day a close friend of mine saw my update and offered to help finance the remaining funds needed to get a working system up and running. So with the use of my tax refund, a little bit of crowdfunding, and a lot of help from an old friend, I managed to get all the parts I needed to get a fully working system. Here is my progress compared to my old list.
Again Red items are for future purchase and were not needed for the system to work, they are still needed, but I will get them later on. ($Prices) are the original priced {$Price} are the retail prices of the items if bought individually. But I saved $30-ish as most everything was bought in a combo except for the video card.

Now you will notice a lot of things were crossed out. Most of them were replaced with other parts, some less expensive, some more, but it averages out. For instance the video card I chose was more expensive by $105, however, this choice allowed me to use my existing DVI monitors, so I saved $154.98. I also eliminated the Optical drive, as I can do things via USB. And I eliminated the Operating system as I will be moving a disk over from an older machine (via Sysprep) and saving the license there. I also eliminated the two 2TB hard drives, I may change that later on when I get the SSD as the case only supports 2 HDD and 2 SSDs.
So the total paid out, Taxes and shipping included was just over $1380 and I should receive all the parts by next week sometime. I still have about $500 in upgrades (shipping and tax included) which will be the Ram upgrade to 32GB and getting the SSD for the OS. But that will come later, as all I needed was a working system, and that is what I will have once it’s delivered.
